NFL Picks: Week 16

December 23rd, 2005 by actionBERG

  • Atlanta at Tampa Bay - Tampa Bay
(Atlanta is just not ready for prime time. Tampa should play well at home.)
  • Buffalo at Cincinnati - Cincinnati
(Not sure what is happening in Buffalo, but I don’t like it)
  • Dallas at Carolina - Carolina
(Not many teams have looked worse than Dallas did last weekend.)
  • Detroit at New Orleans - New Orleans
(Man, too crappy teams playing each other, tough call)
  • Jacksonville at Houston - Jacksonville
(Houston can’t win two in a row can they?)
  • N.Y. Giants at Washington - N.Y. Giants
(Washington is due for a let down this weekend)
  • Pittsburgh at Cleveland - Cleveland
(That’s right, I am calling for the upset. You heard it here first)
  • San Diego at Kansas City - Kansas City
(No one, and I mean no one beats KC at home in December)
  • San Francisco at St. Louis - St. Louis
(Yet another game that I would not want to watch.)
  • Tennessee at Miami - Miami
(Miami is playing great right now. Look out for them next year.)
  • Philadelphia at Arizona - Philadelphia
(What is the deal with Arizona’s QB situation?)
  • Indianapolis at Seattle - Seattle
(Tough one to call. Neither team has any incentive really.)
  • Oakland at Denver - Denver
(Oakland gave up on their season long ago.)
  • Chicago at Green Bay - Chicago
(Green Bay is just getting worse and worse)
  • Minnesota at Baltimore - Minnesota
(I think they bounce back this weekend.)
  • New England at N.Y. Jets - New England
    (Easiest pick on the board.)

Not sure how many of these are out there, but Red Reporter has decided to host some Best Blog Awards dedicated to sports. The are several categories such as General, NFL, NCAAF, etc. You should check it out and see what they have. I even found a few new blogs that look pretty cool.

P.S. Feel free to vote for my college football blog Bevo Sports and Jesse’s NFL blog The No-Huddle Offense.

    Vote now.

    Chad Johnson to Reindeer Dance?

    December 21st, 2005 by actionBERG

    Chad Johnson to Reindeer Dance?

This past weekend in Detroit, Chad Johnson caught a touchdown and just simply handed the ball back to the referee. This was so shocking that the fans in Detroit actually booed him. Remember that “greatest touchdown celebration ever” Johnson planned back in the Pittsburgh game? Well now it looks like he has something quite new and creative up his sleeve. In a recent interview, Johnson has stated that he plans to incorporate a deer into his celebration.

“On the highway, I hit a deer,” Johnson said Tuesday, insisting he was serious and that the animal wasn’t hurt. “I kept him. He’s at home in the garage. I’m going to use him for the celebration this weekend. He’s a prop. They might suspend me for the last game, but I think this one is worth it.”

Now I have no idea how you could really pull this off or if he is telling the truth, but it sounds to me like he has been hanging out with Ron Artest too much or something.

Are the Patriots Still the Team To Beat?

    December 20th, 2005 by actionBERG

Are the Patriots Still the Team To Beat?

After watching New England just dominate the last two weeks, I have been wondering if despite their record, the Patriots are still the team to beat in the AFC? We all know what Indianapolis has done this year and how they beat the Patriots on their home field, but now the Patriots are getting healthy on both sides of the ball and are starting to look like the Super Bowl Champions that they are.

Jesse over at The No-Huddle Offense seems to think that the Patriots won’t make it to the Super Bowl, but it is hard for me to understand why the Patriots are not getting the respect that they deserve. It almost reminds me of the lack of respect that the Pistons have been getting in the NBA, yet they still keep making it back to the Finals. For me, I am sticking with the theory that the Patriots are the team to beat until someone else proves otherwise and knocks them out of the playoffs. All I know is that I would hate to play the Patriots in the playoffs, no matter who has the home field advantage.

    Weekend Round-Up

    December 19th, 2005 by actionBERG

    • Well, since I made this deal and the Vikings lost, I now owe Jesse over at The No-Huddle Offense a week’s worth of links. Though I still think the Steelers will lose in the first round of the playoffs.
    • The San Diego Chargers go from losing the Dolphins at home to ending the Colts’ perfect season. And didn’t San Diego end New England’s big home win streak also? Impressive.
    • What is going on with the Longhorns in college basketball? They really need a leader to keep them mentally in these games. It was just sad to watch…
    • Nomar Garciaparra is now a Dodger. And since when is Garciaparra a first baseman? I could have sworn he was supposed to be one of the better short-stops out there.
    • Artest has changed his mind and now says that he still wants to play with the Pacers. Jermaine O’Neal is not buying and says the team has moved on. As a Mavs fan, I wouldn’t mind trading Stackhouse for him, but that is unrealistic.

    NFL Picks: Week 15

    December 16th, 2005 by actionBERG

    • Tampa Bay at New England - New England
(New England is getting healthy at the right time.)
    • Kansas City at N.Y. Giants - Kansas City
(Kansas City probably should have beat Dallas. Their offense is incredible.)
    • Denver at Buffalo - Denver
(Buffalo has just too much turmoil going on there.)
    • Arizona at Houston - Arizona
(Houston will again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.)
    • Carolina at New Orleans - Carolina
(New Orleans seems to have given up, and they are starting a new QB?)
    • N.Y. Jets at Miami - Miami
(Saban has Miami playing inspired football. Look out for them next year.)
    • Philadelphia at St. Louis - Philadelphia
(If you like QBs, stay away from this game.)
    • Pittsburgh at Minnesota - Minnesota
(I can’t wait to get some free links out of this game.)
    • San Diego at Indianapolis - Indianapolis
(Indianapolis is just too balanced for San Diego.)
    • Seattle at Tennessee - Seattle
(Easiest pick on the board? I think so.)
    • San Francisco at Jacksonville - Jacksonville
(San Fran is one of the worst road teams I have ever seen.)
    • Cincinnati at Detroit - Cincinnati
(Detroit is one of the worst home teams I have ever seen.)
    • Cleveland at Oakland - Cleveland
(Is Oakland even trying anymore? Does anyone really care?)
    • Dallas at Washington - Washington
(I am only doing this in hopes the opposite will happen.)
    • Atlanta at Chicago - Atlanta
(Atlanta’s running attack should control this game.)
    • Green Bay at Baltimore - Green Bay
(A third straight shitty MNF matchup? This sucks.)

Vols Fan Selling Football Loyalty on eBay

Vols Fan Selling Football Loyalty on eBay

Apparently some Tennessee Vols fans are not so happy about not going to a bowl game this year. One fan has decided to sell his fan loyalty for one year because he is fed up with what is happening at UT. Now I am not sure if this is creative or stupid, but I guess it is working because he currently has the bidding up to $700! Are you kidding me? Those bidders need a life.

    Minnesota Vikings Sex-Boat Scandal T-Shirts

Just in case you wanted to commemorate the Minnesota Vikings sex-boat scandal, the fine folks over at eBay have some t-shirts for you to buy. You wouldn’t want to forget that great moment in Vikings’ history now would you?

And speaking of the sex-boat scandal, isn’t it weird how it doesn’t even seem to be an issue anymore? I guess winning really does cure all.

Mixed Bag: The Texans Still Suck

    December 13th, 2005 by actionBERG

    • In an effort to try to prove they aren’t blowing games in order to get Reggie Bush, the Houston Texans have recently hired Dan Reeves on as a consultant. Nice try Bob McNair, you don’t fool me!
    • I am glad I am not the only one who thinks that Skip Bayless sucks. “We imagine Skip Bayless crouched over his laptop in the dark recess of his drafty cave-office high atop Mt. Crumpet, pondering the next Who down in Whoville which he will eviscerate with his terrible, pointy wit.” Hilarious.
    • Rockets get fined for a side-trip to Las Vegas, which violated the leagues salary cap rules. The real question is why are you taking your team to Las Vegas during the middle of a road trip? Way to keep the focus.
    • Mainstream media is finally noticing that Kobe is wearing those ugly-ass tights. Maybe Kobe is hiding a wicked case of xerosis?

    NBA Power Rankings 12/12/2005

    December 12th, 2005 by actionBERG

    1. Detroit Pistons (15-2) - Wouldn’t it be hilarious if the Pistons picked up Ron Artest? Not that the Pistons need him though, they are playing great basketball and are definitely the class of the East.
    2. Dallas Mavericks (15-5) - Even with injuries you can’t keep this team down. They are beating some of the best teams in the league and will only get better when Howard and Stackhouse return. And amazingly Avery has this team playing some defense. Go Mavs.
    3. San Antonio Spurs (16-4) - The Spurs are doing what they usually do: playing great defense, giving the ball to the Big Fundamental, and letting Manu flop around like a jabroni.
    4. Phoenix Suns (13-6) - Nash is still playing like an MVP and has this team playing incredible basketball. They have won 9 of their last 10 and are actually holding some teams under 100.
    5. Los Angeles Clippers (14-6) - How is this team still playing at this level? I just don’t get it and probably won’t really believe it all season. Elton Brand does deserve some more attention though.
    6. Minnesota Timberwolves (12-6) - Where did this team come from? Maybe all of those trade rumors with KG have inspired this team. They have won 5 straight and continue to surprise some people.
